Bergie's Story

MyVMC Story - Bergie's Story

Today is Bergie's 7th birthday!! She has been through a lot over the last 4 months after being diagnosed with bone cancer, having her front left leg amputated and 6 treatments of chemotherapy. The staff at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center has made her journey so much easier with their love and compassion. Dr. Henson, Dr. Scott, Andrea and the rest of the staff made me feel confident that we were doing the best for her.

Having her leg amputated was the biggest and hardest decision to make for her. Yes, we both struggled some for the first few weeks but she just figured out how to get along with three legs and she is doing great!! She loves to roll in the grass, run really fast across the yard and is her old, happy self again. If anyone is questioning whether or not to go ahead with an amputation I would say, "do it". If I had to make the decision again, I would. Thank you again from myself and Bergie to everyone at the VMC!!!!!!
