Ship/deliver a sample
Please follow the instructions below to either be ship or hand deliver samples to the UMN Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory.
Owing to the inherent fragility of viable cells, samples for flow cytometry need to be submitted to the laboratory within 24 hours of collection and kept cool (not frozen).

- Samples can be shipped by FedEx, UPS, DHL, or the US Postal Service.
- Owing to sample fragility, samples must be shipped to arrive within 24 hours of collection (i.e. Same Day or Overnight service).
- Pack your specimens using a coolant (i.e. a frozen ice pack). Do not ship samples on dry ice.
Hand-deliver instructions:
Samples can be hand-delivered to the UMN Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory between the hours of 8 am to 10 pm, Monday through Friday. If Saturday delivery is needed, please contact us. Samples should be couriered chilled (on an ice-pack).
Sample received on either a Friday or Saturday will be assessed an additional $69.00 STAT fee. This fee is passed along to our DVM student workers who work either after-hours or on the weekend to process these samples.

During Regular Business Hours (8am – 6pm):
- Stop at the VMC front desk and inform a staff member that you are dropping off samples for the Clinical Pathology Laboratory.
- The front desk staff member will then contact the Lab and a Lab staff member will come to the lobby to pick up the samples.
After Hours (6 pm – 10 pm):
- Stop at the VMC front desk and inform a staff member that you are dropping off samples for the Clinical Pathology Laboratory.
- The front desk staff member will then contact the Lab and, if available, a Lab staff member will come to the lobby to pick up the samples.
- If a Lab staff member is not available, you will directly deliver the samples to the Clinical Pathology Laboratory. When arriving at the Clinical Pathology Lab sample receiving area, press the “door-bell” and wait for the lab staff member to receive the samples.
