Ship/deliver a sample

Please follow the instructions below to either ship or hand deliver samples to the UMN Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory.

Shipping instructions

  • Samples can be shipped by FedEx, UPS, DHL, or the US Postal Service.  
  • Owing to sample fragility, samples must be shipped to arrive within 24 hours of collection (i.e. Same Day or Overnight service).
  • Pack your specimens using a coolant (i.e. a frozen ice pack).  Do not ship samples on dry ice.

Hand-deliver instructions

Samples can be hand-delivered to the UMN Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory between the hours of 8 am to 10 pm, Monday through Friday. If Saturday delivery is needed, please contact us. Samples should be couriered chilled (on an ice-pack).

Sample received on either a Friday or Saturday will be assessed an additional $69.00 STAT fee. This fee is passed along to our DVM student workers who work either after-hours or on the weekend to process these samples.

During Regular Business Hours (8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.)

  • Stop at the VMC front desk and inform a staff member that you are dropping off samples for the Clinical Pathology Laboratory.  
  • The front desk staff member will then contact the Lab and a Lab staff member will come to the lobby to pick up the samples.

After Hours (6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.)

  • Stop at the VMC front desk and inform a staff member that you are dropping off samples for the Clinical Pathology Laboratory.  
  • The front desk staff member will then contact the Lab and, if available, a Lab staff member will come to the lobby to pick up the samples.  
  • If a Lab staff member is not available, you will directly deliver the samples to the Clinical Pathology Laboratory.  When arriving at the Clinical Pathology Lab sample receiving area, press the “door-bell” and wait for the lab staff member to receive the samples.
