When you check in, the VMC staff will give you a parking permit that allows you to park free outside the clinic.

  • Please arrive with your animal about 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
  • Please keep your animal restrained at all times.
  • Plan to provide important information about your animal's medical history, diet, physical activities, and any recent behavior changes during the medical evaluation. This information can be of great help to our veterinary staff and students.
  • Please write down any questions you have for our staff, so that all of your concerns are addressed.

What to bring

  • If a veterinarian has previously seen your animal, please bring copies of those records with you.
  • If radiographs or other imaging have been taken, please bring a copy of those as well.
  • If your clinic utilizes digital imaging, our facility would prefer, when at all possible, to have the original DICOM images.

  • Please bring your animal(s) to the VMC about 10 minutes before the agreed-upon time. 
  • Please check in at the Large Animal Clinic Office before unloading your animal. VMC staff are available to help you unload your animal.

What to bring

  • You'll need to bring a copy of your animal's medical record and radiographs (if appropriate) to your appointment.
  • You also can be of great help during the medical evaluation by providing important information about your animal's medical history, diet, physical activities, or any other recent changes that you have noticed.

What if my animal is hospitalized?

  • Learn about visiting hours and policies
  • You may have questions about your animal during its hospitalization or after discharge. Please call us as needed at 612-625-6700 and ask to speak with the veterinarian assigned to your case. Please be prepared to give us your animal's six-digit case number.
  • When you leave the VMC, your veterinarian will provide you with instructions about home care, medications, follow-up examinations, or other post-discharge details. Please make certain that you understand and carefully observe the instructions. They are an important component of your animal's overall treatment program.

Helpful resources

What to bring

  • If your horse is insured, please bring the policy number and contact information for the agent/insurer.
  • If your animal has had previous radiographs, it can be very useful to bring those.
  • If you are worried about a back problem, we may ask you to bring your tack.
  • If your animal is staying with us, bring any daily dewormer or medications or special feed.
  • If your clinician anticipates radiographs or consults, you may want to bring a good book or electronic device (wireless is available in the lobby).
  • Please leave other pets at home unless they can stay in the truck/trailer.
