The Veterinary Medical Center offers U Pet Wellness Plans for cats and dogs of U of M employees and students. Save up to 20% and receive unlimited office visits with our Primary Care Service, as well as most standard immunizations, heartworm testing and preventative; and reduced fees on specialty exams. The option to leave your pet with us on the day of their Primary Care exam is available at no additional charge. Enroll your pet anytime in one of our affordable plans, and pay for it through payroll deduction.

For your dog

Dr. Choi with a client and her dogCanine plan: $12.50 per payperiod

The U-Pet-Canine Wellness Plan includes:

  • Unlimited Primary Care Examinations for 12 Months
    You will not be charged a Primary Care (PC) examination fee regardless of the number of times your pet is seen by PC during the 12-month UPet Wellness Plan.

  • Vaccinations: Distemper Combination (distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus) Rabies virus
    The UPet Canine Wellness Plan includes core vaccinations that help protect your pet and family from serious illness. Dogs do not always require annual vaccination. Your veterinarian will make specific recommendations based on your dog’s needs at your wellness visit. Additional vaccines required for puppies, boarding, or travel are also available with an additional charge at the time of the exam.

  • Fecal Flotation Test (annual)
    A fecal exam is performed annually to help protect you and your family from common but potentially dangerous parasites.

  • Heartworm Antigen Test (annual)
    Your dog will be tested for the presence of heartworms and exposure to common tick borne diseases prior to your veterinarian prescribing heartworm preventatives.

  • 12 Months Supply of Heartworm Preventive (brand recommended by Primary Care DVMs)
    Protects your dog year-round against heartworm disease and common intestinal parasites.

  • 20% off 12 Months Supply of Flea & Tick Control (Brand recommended by Primary Care DVMs)
    Kills fleas and ticks on your pet and prevents flea infestation in your home.

  • Boarding on the Day of Your Primary Care Appointment
    You will pay no boarding fee should your pet need to stay for the day (12 hours maximum) when you are scheduled for a Primary Care appointment.

  • 20% Discount on Exams and Consults:
    Including these services: Cardiology, Complementary Alternative Medicine, Dentistry, Dermatology, Medicine, Neurology, Nutrition, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Rehabilitation, Surgery, and Training Services.

For your cat

Dr. Fairbairn, a client, and his catFeline plan:  $7.70 per payperiod

U-Pet Feline Wellness Plan includes:

  • Unlimited Primary Care Examinations for 12 Months
    When your pet is enrolled you will not be charged an examination fee when your pet is seen by Primary Care (PC) regardless of the number of times they are seen during the duration of the 12-month Wellness Plan.

  • Vaccinations: Distemper Combination (panleukopenia, herpesvirus, calicivirus) Rabies virus
    The UPet Feline Wellness Plan includes core vaccinations that help protect your pet and family from serious illness. Cats do not always require annual vaccination. Your veterinarian will make specific recommendations based on your cat’s needs at your wellness visit. Additional vaccines required for kittens, boarding, or travel are also available with an additional charge at the time of the exam.

Please call the Veterinary Medical Center to set up your first appointment.
Mention the U–Pet Wellness Plan. Call 612 626-VETS (8387).  

At your first appointment you will fill out the necessary paperwork to become a U-Pet member and you will be able to sign up for convenient payroll deduction.

 

* Additional program information

  • To qualify for the U-Pet Wellness Plan, you must be a University of Minnesota employee at the time of enrollment or renewal and the pet must be owned by you.
  • The U-Pet Wellness Plan enrollment fee must be paid in full or a payroll deduction form completed prior to your pet’s first appointment.
  • The U-Pet Wellness Plan enrollment fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable between pets and owners. 
  • Included items cannot be omitted for discount or substitution. If flea or heartworm protection product is lost or damaged after pharmacy pick-up, replacement products may be purchased. 
  • Patients not previously vaccinated will require additional boosters and visits that are not included in the U-Pet Wellness Plan.
  • Additional vaccines and preventative health services that are not included in the UPet Wellness Plan and future prepaid services may be denied if account balances at the Veterinary Medical Center are past due. 
  • To ensure its high standards of patient care and customer service, the VMC reserves the right to limit the number of U-Pet Wellness Plans available.
